Hope Springs
The season of Easter is meant to remind us that there is cause for hope. Even
in the midst of suffering and sorrow, the people of God are called to remain hopeful. And, often we are called to be the source
of hope as well.
Here are some of the things that are signs
of hope for me these days.
Flowers are blooming. Even though
winter is long and dark, the days grow warmer and the light lasts longer.
The horrific disaster in Haiti unleashed generosity around the globe. People left jobs and families to hurry
to Haiti to serve. The ongoing poverty of that nation has been witnessed and determination to make substantive changes is
growing.
Holy Cross' ministry at the Salvation Army
is thriving, and in spite of challenging economies for individuals and the congregation, benevolence continues.
The congregation continues to be attentive to caring for each other. Your quiet
conversations, your delight in seeing one another at worship, your eagerness to be of help, the energy that is lavished on
meals, gathering, and laughter -- all of it is a sign of hope. And our life together grows more hope and Easter becomes very
real.
With a spring in my step,
Pastor Susan
